THE US President, George Bush, tried to ease the worries of his Mexican counterpart as he prepared for a nationally televised address unveiling a plan to send thousands of National Guard troops to help seal his country's southern border against illegal immigrants.
Keep an eye out on him Mr. Fox every word from him is a lie I’m afraid his name is not George Washington but George Bush we are talking of here.
In a way I can see that not just him but a huge majority of Americans would favour keeping your countrymen out of their country, still your record is not so crash hot is it?
Why do they flee in droves from your country huh? Something is wrong I reckon.
Zedillo it seems did far much better than you.
The whole point of this really is that Bush is actually trying to alleviate the problem of illegal Mexicans into the USA WELL trying to show his good intent but he has none as most of us know also he is facing an election in 2008 are you?
Thank goodness I live on an Island where our illegals are stopped not that I like our methods at detaining them as I don’t, in fact I deplore the methods we use but why is ok for you to kick up a fuss as these measures will only be employed in the United States not in Mexico.
In 2003 Australian health both federal and state ministers meeting in Sydney, acknowledged that the nation is facing an epidemic of obesity and agreed that joint national action must be taken to increase healthy eating and physical activity amongst children, young people and their families.
Ministers agreed that reducing obesity levels will take some time but further action needed to start now to build on work already commenced in several states.
They agreed that families, schools, child care centres, general practitioners, food manufacturers, retailers, sporting groups, urban planners, the media, community health centres, workplaces and many other groups all have a role to play and should be the focus of sustained programs to reduce overweight and obesity and the harm it causes.
But it appears the problem is worsening.
AUSTRALIA is sitting on a time bomb of disease and early death, according to the first national survey to examine how quickly diabetes and other health threats linked to obesity and poor lifestyle are taking hold.
New figures reveal 100,000 people each year develop diabetes, which in turn doubles their chance of dying during the next five years, according to the study of more than 6000 men and women, to be released today by federal Health Minister Tony Abbott.
Mind you a lot of these big bellies on men are not just lack of exercise and sensible eating; I reckon grog plays a large part in it. Just MO.
Guess I will have to give away Macdonald’s and Pizzas after all still I guess the odd one won’t hurt.
CAN THIS BE TRUE?
Sounds like it's real fun to work in the white house....

Avoiding detection at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue
By DOUG THOMPSON
Nov 11, 2005, 02:28 Note the date well.
Wary White House aides, under constant scrutiny from a paranoid Bush
administration hell bent on stopping leaks, have turned to a technique
used by drug dealers and criminals to avoid detection – prepaid,
disposable cell phones.
The phones, which can be purchased for as little as $30 each from
discount stores, offer prepaid minutes and can be discarded when the
time is used up. They require no contract or sign-up and are difficult
to trace.
"It's about the only way we can ensure any privacy," one bitter White
House staffer told me this week. "Our office and home calls are
monitored along with our normal cell phones."
Enterprising White House staffers have pooled their resources and use
third parties to purchase the phones in bulk from retailers like
WalMart
in small towns outside the National Capital Region.
When one phone's minutes are used up, they toss the handset and
activate
a new one.
Drug dealers and organized gangs use such phones to avoid wiretaps and
call monitoring by law enforcement agencies. That White House aides
have
turned to the same techniques indicates just how tense life in the West
Wing has become.
"Every time a new story emerges in the press, everyone here comes under
suspicion," says one aide. "We spend most of our time covering our
asses
instead of tending to the nation's business."
White House sources tell us that even senior aides like embattled
Presidential advisor Karl Rove uses the prepaid phones to avoid having
certain calls show up on call logs or other records that might be
subpoenaed.
"You do what you can to avoid leaving a paper trail," says one aide.
Other techniques employed by administration officials to avoid
detection
include:
One female staffer says working at the White House ough services like
Hotmail, Lycos, Yahoo and Gmail. Staff members create multiple
accounts and create new ones often.
--Increased use of cash instead of credit or debit cards. "Gas receipts
can show where you've been. When you pay cash there's less of a trail
to
follow," says one staff member.
--Use of cars belonging to friends or increased use of public
transportation like the Washington metro system because "it's easier to
get lost in a crowd."
"I know this all sounds like a dime store novel but that's the depth
we've all sunk to around here," says an aide who has worked in previous
administrations as well as on the current White House staff.
These tactics are usually employed by people fleeing from the long arms of the law not A government administration.
Current happenings in the Administration suggest this could well be true and is now bearing fruit in view of other Blogs I have read especially phone tapping.
I now find that in Australia at least your E-mail is at risk.
What's the odds it is happening in the USA frightening isn't it?

Man goes from doghouse to tree house
Gayadhar Parida, 83, moved into a makeshift treehouse after he and his wife disagreed about a "tiny issue" in the late 1950s. And there he has remained, disdaining both his son and grand-daughter's weddings.
"We quarrelled over a tiny issue and that is why he left me and promised not to live with me and return home until his death. I have tried a lot and attempted to force him to come back, but he has refused all the time," his wife said.
Going a tad far I reckon sticking it out through cyclones etc; what about a bath hell?
Then there’s a bloke who was charged $1600 for a beer, silly bastard.
Something wrong there I reckon and I have to pay almost $4 depending where I buy it; thank goodness I hardly touch the stuff lol.
Another bloke who surely needs his head looked at here as well I reckon he lives in east Georgia and landed in jail after photographing his healthy plants and going to local drug store to have the pictures developed. On par with the beer bloke lol.
This ones a beauty a lady who has been filing law suits as she claimed she was a Paraplegic came undone when she was arrested she leapt from her wheelchair and ran like hell; would have like to have seen that takes all sorts I guess in this crazy world we live in today, truly a miracle.
Some folk mind are just plumb sadistic so this schoolgirl got her Mom to bake teacher some cookies with the help of two friends full of laxative; I bet there was a run on toilet paper when teach ate them not really funny as a whole box was used to lace the cookies.
What about the little Bo Peep Perp lol
A homeless man from Little Rock Arkansas, arrested for taking out the garbage with a sheep in it; still in the circumstances the guy was only trying to get a feed; anyway all you animal lovers the said sheep was returned to it’s pen so don't panic but.
Judge Blames ADHD for Wrongful Arrests
I reckon this here Judge is in deep doo doo having eleven people arrested for going to the wrong courtroom, reckons he’s horrified by his action and blamed it on attention deficit hyperactivity disorder oh dear.
This ones a beauty a guy in Philadelphia pled guilty to a charge of sending weapons of mass destruction to a surgeon who he reckoned botched the job with a penile enlargement procedure, seems he was unhappy with the result.
Did it get cut in half I wonder? Lol.
Would a US attack on Iran's nuclear sites be an illegal act?
Yes it would is MO along with a lot of other folk who think as I do on these lines.
So yes a big decision for the Shrub to make and all the ill advised advisors he has whispering in his ear; IMHO he should carry on with his Farsi lessons and stop his warmongering doesn’t he realise that people are sick of his rants.
Look to your own country Mr. President and keep your oar out of others you have been told this and you did say once you read the newspapers so READ THEM and learn.
Takes a lot to sink in to that head of your’s along with all the ill advised hangers on you employ that are paid by the American taxpayer; did you forget that small detail, yes of course you did.The Bush administration is stepping up the pressure on the Security Council to pass a resolution that the US will use to justify an invasion. Meanwhile the world has to wait for this the worst government that the USA has ever had to make up it’s mind.
John Bolton, the US ambassador to the United Nations, is pushing Council members to vote on a resolution this week.
Bolton will not have the support of this mooted motion by the USA by Russia or China.
there are many factors here to be taken into consideration; I was taught as a child to look before you leap and I think Bush and company need to be reminded of these facts.
I read here that Bush could be setting up a sting here but has he that mentality well lives and time will no doubt tell.
Meanwhile the world has to wait for this the worst government that the USA has ever had to make up its mind.
Very strange happenings here very strange indeed.
It seems that the moon for all the visits to it and examination of moon rocks and all that jazz is not as a lot of folk quote “a chunk torn from the earth unquote” but in fact is at least a billion years older than the earth.
Some folk believe there is an alien base on the moon wow I wish still who knows! So I guess I am in that category.
NASA and the old Soviet probes conducted their missions but then it ceased and cost was given as to the cause of this which is quite feasible BUT there are a lot of us out here who believe quite differently.
It seems also that no humans will return to the moon until 2018, all they have been doing is ignoring the moon except for orbiting it and orbits galore around the earth for years, and of course unmanned probes to other places in our system; which is also costly but then again maybe there are no alien bases out there like it has been suggested so maybe there are alien bases on our on the moon after all.
This is an actual transcript of Neil Armstrong’s message back to Houston before the plug was hastily pulled.
Another NASA official, Christopher Kraft, who was director of the NASA tracking base in Houston during the Apollo Moon missions, revealed the following conversation between Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Mission Control after he left NASA:
Apollo 11: "Those are giant things. No, no, no .... this is not an optical illusion. No one is going to believe this!"
Mission Control (Houston Center): "What...what...what? What the hell is happening? What's wrong with you?"
Apollo 11: “They're here under the surface.”
Mission Control: "What's there? Emission interrupted...interference control calling Apollo II."
Apollo 11: "We saw some visitors. They were there for awhile, observing the instruments."
Mission Control: "Repeat your last information."
Apollo 11: "I say that there were other spaceships. They're lined up on the other side of the crater."
Mission Control: "Repeat...repeat!"
Apollo 11: "Let us sound this orbit a ..... In 625 to5...automatic relay connected...My hands are shaking so badly I can't do anything. Film it? God, if these damned cameras have picked up anything. What then?"
Mission Control: "Have you picked up anything?"
Apollo 11: "I didn't have any film at hand. Three shots of the saucers or whatever they were that were ruining the film."
Mission Control: "Control, control here. Are you on your way? Is the uproar with the U.F.O's. over?
Apollo 11: "They've landed there. There they are and they are watching us."
Mission Control: "The mirrors, the mirrors...have you set them up?"
Apollo 11: "Yes, they're in the right place. But whoever made those space ships surely can come tomorrow and remove them. Over and out."
And these mirrors have intrigued me and the way it was mentioned by ground control suggests it was something the Astronauts had to do.
Makes you think huh? It did me but.
Iran President's Threats Must be Taken Seriously, Says Bush
U.S. President George W. Bush May 07. 2006
BERLIN - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's threats to destroy Israel should be taken seriously and suggest he could target other countries as well, U.S. President George W. Bush told a German newspaper.
The United States and Europe believe Iran is pursuing an atomic bomb and have reported the country to the U.N. Security Council, which could impose possible sanctions.
"When he says that he wants to destroy Israel, the world needs to take it seriously," Bush said in an interview with a German weekly magazine
"This is a serious threat, aimed at an ally of the United States and Germany. What Ahmadinejad’s also means is that if he is ready to destroy one country, then he would also be ready to destroy others. This is a threat that needs to be dealt with."
Ahmadinejad has said Israel should be "wiped off the map" and referred to the Holocaust, in which 6 million Jews died at the hands of the Nazis, as a myth.
While reiterating that all options for stopping Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons were on the table, Bush said he believed a diplomatic solution was possible if the international community worked hard and remained united.
"Iran represents a challenge. And I want your readers to know that I want and believe that we can solve this diplomatically," Bush said.
Tehran says its nuclear programme is purely for peaceful energy purposes. On Sunday, it said any punitive measures taken by the Security Council risked stoking confrontation and damaging chances for cooperation.
Bush, who held talks with Chancellor Angela Merkel in the White House last week, called the German leader a key partner in the international drive to curb Iran's nuclear ambitions.
"Absolutely, absolutely," Bush said, when asked whether he viewed Germany as a "partner in leadership" -- a term used by his father, President George Bush, during the Cold War.
"We are seeing this on the Iran question. Chancellor Merkel has been strong so far. It is very important that the Iranians know that Germany is working with others to send Tehran a clear message."
Bush also said he understood Germany's decision not to participate in the Iraq war, which severely strained relations between Washington and Merkel's predecessor Gerhard Schroeder.
"The Germans today simply don't like war -- regardless of where they are on the political spectrum. And I can understand that," Bush said. "There is a generation of people whose lives were thrown into complete disarray by a horrible war."
The thing is does Bush really want a war well I think he does sadly but at the same time it was no myth about the Holocaust and the wilful extermination of six million Jews; HAMAS and all these tin pot harassers are making hay while the sun shines.
The Jewish people have a perfect right to live in the Middle East; this is the only thing that irks me about Palestinians really; why can’t they just live in peace instead of suicide bombers and the like which have dropped a little I believe.
But what a disgusting way for them to wage a war sending children to blow their selves up while they sit back and promise them the delights of Paradise; what a strange religion that does this and in the same breath says Moslems are not like that; personally all these so called behind the scenes leaders of children whom they have taught to be so fanatical will hopefully rot in hell for their misguided deeds.
All this of course should be left to the United Nations to sort out not the President of the United States; who deep down I suspect loves it.
The United Nations are weak it is true why are they not peace ENFORCERS instead of just of observing; sadly I don't think we will ever get an answer on that one.
Just look at the hatred towards Israel by children with bombs strapped to them as well as an RPG (rocket propelled grenade launcher),
plus a victim.
All egged on by HAMAS.
Rescuers say it could be later today before they can even start digging the final vertical shaft towards trapped miners Todd Russell and Brant Webb.
And this is the thirteenth day now for these blokes underground awful to contemplate really; I know my best wishes go out to them and the rest of the world really as these mishaps can happen when you least expect it; one bloke who died is being laid to rest today; so terrible for the wives and families.
It appears it is harder than it was first thought this rock and explosives are being used so all in all a very dicey fragile operation and the rescuers have a delicate job on their hands with all their lives at stake.
The difference between CDs and DVDs
Do the terms CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R and DVD+RW make you wonder which disks work in your computer and which will just be shiny drinks coasters?
What are CDs and DVDs exactly?
Collectively, CDs (Compact Disks) and DVDs (Digital Versatile Disks) are known as optical media because the data stored on them is ‘read’ by a laser. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking DVDs are just for video either – all recordable optical disks work in the same basic way: Binary data – a series of dots and dashes - is literally burnt into a heat-sensitive layer in the disk by laser. A reading laser can recognise these ‘burns’ and convert them back into data for your computer (or the chips driving your stereo and DVD players).
The big difference between CDs and DVDs is really in the way stored data is formatted, which affects the amount of data a disk can hold.
How much data are we talking about?
A typical CD will hold 650MB to 750MB of data. How much is that? Well, if your average MP3 song is around 5MB, we’re talking about 130 odd songs per disk. (If you’re wondering, store-bought CDs don’t compress the music into MP3 code, which is why they hold fewer tracks.)
A standard DVD disk, on the hand, can store 4.7GB (approximately 4,700MB) – enough for roughly two hours of video. Beyond that, it starts to get more confusing. The latest disk technology includes DVD-RAM disks (9.4GB), double-layer DVDs (8.4GB) and double-layer double-sided DVD (16GB+).
As an indication of capacity, a double-layer DVD can store around four hours of digital quality video or up to 16 hours of VHS quality video.
What about all the different types – CDs?
The basic types of CD are CD-R and CD-RW.
• CD-R stands for CD-Recordable. You can record data onto these once only, and then it’s archived safely for as long as you want it. CD-R disks are fast writing and can then be read by most disk drives or players.
• CD-RW stands for CD-Rewriteable. The big difference is that these disks are re-writable: You can record, read and then rewrite fresh data onto the same disk, so you can update or change the data over and over again – up to 1,000 times.
What about all the different types – DVD?
DVDs have split into quite a few formats, and this is where compatibility issues can really become a problem. (Remember those shiny drinks coasters…?)
• DVD-R and DVD+R are both write-once Recordable disks (like CD-R disks). You can record data onto them once, and it is then stored for posterity.
• DVD-RW and DVD+RW are both re-writable (like CD-RW disks), so you can record, retrieve, and write over data on these disks. Again, they’ll stand 1,000 or more rewriting sessions, making them a flexible storage medium for large quantities of data.
So what’s with ‘DVD-’ and ‘DVD+’ ?
DVD- is a slightly older, slower DVD disk format. By comparison, DVD+ disks are certified for up to a 16x recording speed – the fastest recording speed of any DVD format. That’s equivalent to around 3.2MB/sec (and an entire MP3 track is around 5MB, remember).
Are store-bought disks the same?
No. While manufactured CDs and DVDs also store data in ways that can be read by a laser, the data isn’t burned into the disk. Usually, it’s mechanically stamped into a foil sheet. These disks don’t have the heat sensitive layer of recordable disks, so they’re less expensive and more robust.
Finally, a storage tip.
On that note, you should always be aware that your disks have that heat sensitive layer in them. So while they have the potential to safely hold your data for 100 years or more, if you expose them to heat all bets are off. If you really want your disks to last, keep them somewhere cool and dark. Not much will ruin them faster than exposure to heat such as direct sunshine – or the bottom of a coffee cup!But even then beware as a survey I read once said that whatever quality you purchase does not really guarantee they will be a lot of good and so I tried out some old ones of a decent and not so decent brand of these storage devices and found that the longer you keep them is not good as they seem to take forever to load and I recomend a flash or pen drive as they seem to be called now.
This info was sent to me by a friend but I know it to be true.
So Bill Gates does not want to be the richest person in the world; such rot Bill so sell get out, I think quite a few would be pleased if you did;And does not wish to become a politician; I think I have heard it all now.
You can still go and enjoy yourself who’s stopping you? And A$65 Billion ($50 Billion in US Dollars is an awful lot of cash.
Donate it to needy folk and for Gods sake don’t ever enter politics has anyone approached you yet? Because they will as sure as God made little green apples trust me and then you will really be classed as a ratbag;
Are you absolutely sure that you have never made a large contribution to a political party; I do believe you have, so you don’t wish to get into politics Where big money is made and yet you donated to the Republican House speaker and his Democratic counterpart and ah yes here we go Senator Mike DeWine from Ohio received $9 grand from you not big bickies for you but I am wondering why and now with this statement of yours; yes something is rotten in the state of Denmark I think if you can recollect Shakespeare at college.
Well well things are looking up Microsoft employees donated more than 50 grand to Bushes’ campaign and more indeed a 100 grand to the Bush-Cheney inauguration Committee and some to the farcial recount. Hm I know that in the USA this is done as it used to be that way here but I would hazard a guess Bill you are surely thinking of some political job still I could be wrong I’m just a dumb Aussie that buys your rubbish.
Mind you it would appear that all this is quite legal, most likely a tax dodge as well but I reckon myself you think you are destined for higher things myself.
In the last three US electoral cycles (1998, 2000, and 2002), Microsoft’s soft money donations have favoured Republicans over Democrats. I mean in 2000 alone $1.313.384 was for the Republicans against $876.792 to the Democrats; covering your rear here Bill and now this statement of your’s I reckon you want a cushy little number possibly even as an aide in the white House but that’s a sheer guess on my part. But one does not make a statement like you did just off the top of your head.
At the end of the 14th century Europeans started to take people from Africa against their will. Initially they were mainly used as servants for the rich. The Europeans justified the taking of slaves by arguing that they were providing an opportunity for Africans to become Christians. By the 17th century the removal of slaves from Africa became a holy cause that had the full support of the Christian Church.
When Spanish and Portuguese sea-captains began to explore the Americas they took their African servants with them. Some of these Africans proved to be excellent explorers. The most important of these was Estevanico, who led the first European expedition to New Mexico and Arizona.
The people living in the Americas resisted the attempt by the Europeans to take over their land. One of he most important struggles took place in Cuba in 1512. The Cubans, led by Chief Hatuey, were eventually defeated by the superior weapons of the Spanish.
It is estimated that over a million people lived in Cuba before the arrival of the Europeans. Twenty-five years later there were only 2,000 left. Large numbers had been killed, while others died of starvation, disease, committed suicide or had died from the consequences of being forced to work long hours in the gold mines.
After the arrival of the Europeans there was a sharp decline in the local population of most of the islands in the Caribbean Sea. This created a problem for the Europeans as they needed labour to exploit the natural resources of these islands. Eventually the Europeans came up with a solution: the importation of slaves from Africa. By 1540, an estimated 10,000 slaves a year were being brought from Africa to replace the diminishing local populations.
British merchants became involved in the trade and eventually dominated the market. They built coastal forts in Africa where they kept the captured Africans until the arrival of the slave-ships. The merchants obtained the slaves from African chiefs by giving them goods from Europe. At first, these slaves were often the captured soldiers from tribal wars. However, the demand for slaves become so great that raiding parties were organised to obtain young Africans.
This of course was simply disgusting as if one takes the UK alone they had so many poor folk and now it was decided under the Church that it was quite normal; a pity they never had foresight then or if they did it was not used; reminds me of somebody I rant on about only he has no brains either.
An estimated 15 million Africans were transported to the Americas between 1540 and 1850. To maximize their profits slave merchants carried as many slaves as was physically possible on their ships. A House of Commons committee in 1788 discovered that one slave-ship, The Brookes, was originally built to to carry a maximum of 451 people, but was carrying over 600 slaves from Africa to the Americas.
Chained together by their hands and feet, the slaves had little room to move. It has been estimated that only about half of the slaves taken from Africa became effective workers in the Americas. A large number of slaves died on the journey from diseases such as smallpox and dysentery. Others committed suicide by refusing to eat. Many of the slaves were crippled for life as a consequence of the way they were chained up on the ship.
By the 17th century slaves could be purchased in Africa for about $25 and sold in the Americas for about $150. After the slave-trade was declared illegal, prices went much higher. Even with a death-rate of 50 per cent, merchants could expect to make tremendous profits from the trade.
But the diabolical way in which the British transported and sold these poor people was absolutely disgusting, and to think I was born there.
The abject misery these poor folk who of course did not understand English at all must have been degrading and bewildering too; good heavens to think the Brits started all this but the Americans persisted with;is well it seems out of this world; it is not of course Bloody disgusting is more like words I would use.
Now it was abolished this gruesome trade in 1805 when the second bill that one William Wilberforce put to the parliament made it illegal for any British subject to transport slaves but it was blocked by those bewigged and gowned idiots in the house of Lords.
It finally became illegal in March 1807.
British Captains who were caught were fined £100 but this did not stop the slavers and if a slave ship was in danger of being captured by the Royal Navy Captains often reduced the fines they may have had to pay by simply throwing the poor innocent slaves into the sea, and when I read that I can tell you my blood ran cold truly.
In August 1833 parliament passed the abolition act that gave all slaves their freedom BUT only in the British Empire.
I have a coloured friend in America and have been informed there is still bias towards them IN THIS DAY AND AGE.
According to this reference and also this one it was supposed to have been stopped by the Brits but I did read somewhere that Royal Navy Captains used to turn a blind eye to an American slaver there was a famous case off Cape town South Africa but it eludes me now.
In any advent this link could help maybe.
Of course the saga of this will be followed up by me at a later date as I know that to this very day Americans still are not treated quite as they should be, and I have made this post a tad long I think; it makes for interesting reading but.
It appears that there are documents now discovered that found that you Bush and your company knew and I might add approved of this outrage, ok so you decided to go to war well the least you could have done was treated the prisoners taken as POW”S even if yours and mine BTW were not treated the same as them;
You sir ought to be downright ashamed at the mongrel you have turned out to be; ok so you were talked into it by your so called advisers; so fire them and hire more;
Your record as a President of the United States is a disgrace as we would say in my country a bloody disgrace; your predecessors must be turning in their graves; and you a strutting worlds commissioner of Police; you are a joke can you not understand that by now? No of course not whilst you have evil doers like Condi and your gun toting deputy;
Just resign and let the American people
Have a war free better life; you are not well loved in Australia I can tell you; I loathe you more than my head of state and he is a liar but then what politician is not?
But you were not elected to do these terrible deeds and there is doubt if you even were elected in a fair and democratic manner; I believe the first time it was decided by a court decision what a sick joke; you are acting like the New York yacht Club defending the Americas cup which we won off you anyway finally, fair and square I might add despite Dennis Connors Protests.
THE FLYING LUXURY HOTEL
Even though the Aeroscraft dwarfs the largest commercial airliners, it requires less net space on the ground than any plane because it doesn't need a runway. The airship takes off and lands like a helicopter: straight up and down.
This is not a Blimp. It's a sort of flying Queen Mary 2 that could change the way you think about air travel. It's the Aeroscraft, and when it's completed, it will ferry pampered passengers across continents and oceans as they stroll leisurely about the one-acre cabin or relax in their well-appointed staterooms.
Unlike its dirigible ancestors, the Aeroscraft is not lighter than air. Its 14 million cubic feet of helium hoist only two thirds of the craft's weight. The rigid and surprisingly aerodynamic body driven by huge rearward propellers generates enough additional lift to keep the behemoth and its 400-ton payload aloft while cruising. During takeoff and landing, six turbofan jet engines push the ship up or ease its descent.
This two-football-fields-long concept airship is the brainchild of Igor Pasternak, whose privately-funded California firm, Worldwide Aeros Corporation, is in the early stages of developing a prototype and expects to have one completed by 2010. Pasternak says several cruise ship companies have expressed interest in the project, and for good reason: The craft would have a range of several thousand miles and, with an estimated top speed of 174 mph, could traverse the continental U.S. in about 18 hours. During the flight, passengers would peer at national landmarks just 8,000 feet below or, if they weren't captivated by the view, the cavernous interior would easily accommodate such amenities as luxury staterooms, restaurants, even a casino.
To minimize noise, the aft-mounted propellers will be electric, powered by a renewable source such as hydrogen fuel cells. A sophisticated buoyancy-management system will serve the same purpose as trim on an airplane, allowing for precise adjustments in flight dynamics to compensate for outside conditions and passenger movement. The automated system will draw outside air into compartments throughout the ship and compress it to manage onboard weight.
On a pressurized plane, windows like these would explode outward . The Aeroscraft does not fly high enough to need pressurization.
The company envisions a cargo-carrying version that could deliver a store's worth of merchandise from a centralized distribution center straight to a Wal-Mart parking lot or, because the helium-filled craft will float, a year's worth of supplies to an offshore oil rig. "You can land on the snow, you can land on the water," Pasternak says. "It's a new vision of what can be done in the air."

I hope G W Bush does not have grandiose ideas of floating over Iran in it as it would be goodbye George so lets all club in and get him a ticket the whole motley whitehouse crew lol.
still this one is fun.
many thanks to Inge who sent me this in an e-mail.
It seems scientists have made water to run uphill under its own power according to this explanation by a US scientist.
Well as we all know it was not the head of the administration as he can’t even win a war and boy does he drag wars out.
Quite interesting I was only wondering if we could make Georgie boy run up hill himself; yeah a silly statement as he seems to be going downhill all the way and three cheers for that and for this effort by Doctor Linke with the water experiment.
CONTROVERSIAL Queensland Nationals senator Barnaby Joyce has said Australia should mine Antarctica before another country gets in first.
Definitely not there is a treaty in force so I read, ok so some countries don’t recognise it well there is a solution.
Announce that instead of wasting taxpayers money on Iraq put it into defending our portion about 40% I think. And the rest on enforcing other nations involved either signing a treaty or claiming it for ourselves; and very limited development if any; why in heaven’s name spoil and mar such a beautiful untouched wilderness which is home to lots of wildlife.
